Our team of volunteers returned to the Children’s Hospital No 3 on Vasilievsky Island St Petersburg in May 2007.

We were once again welcomed whole heartedly by the Head Doctor Galina and the staff and children at the hospital. As can often happen the project we planned had to be changed at the last minute due to regulations imposed on the hospital. Our volunteers however rose to the challenge splendidly and worked very hard often late into the night to ensure the project was finished on time.

This time we were delighted to have the help of a number of Russian workers.

We were also very pleased to welcome a new volunteer to our midst, Jeanne, who speaks some Russian was a great help to our project.

As were our team of ‘old hands’!

The project was to transform the room used by some 20/30 children as a school room, play room, dining room and general entertainment room. The windows were replaced by new double glazed units. The old and in very bad repair partition wall was replaced by a huge UVPC partition wall. All the walls need to be replaced with new plasterboard walls and the ceiling replaced with a new plasterboard ceiling. New lights and down lighters were installed along with new sockets. New flooring was laid and the room decorated with bright new paint. A brand new sink was also fitted. We were also able to purchase new furniture, tables, chair and cupboards for the room. It really made a difference to the room, making it much more pleasant and comfortable for the children to use.

We were also able to remove a glass partition wall in the corridor of the ward thus opening up the corridor and making it a much lighter and brighter for both staff and children.

Fundraising

As always fund raising is vital for our charity, if everyone who read this newsletter were to respond with a donation we would be well on our way to funding our next project. Please consider making a donation, no matter how small or indeed large.

Our thanks go to all those who have raised funds for us in the past and to the many supporters who have donated funds. Without your help we would not be able to help the children in the way that we do.
